Rental Policies & Terms
Effective date: 1 January 2026
These policies govern self-drive car, SUV, bike, and scooter rentals on DriveRent. Please read them before booking. For quick answers, visit our FAQs.
Booking & Eligibility
- •Minimum age: 21+ for cars/SUVs/luxury; 18+ for bikes and scooters.
- •Valid Indian driving license (minimum 1 year old) required. International travelers need an IDP.
- •Government ID (Aadhaar/Passport/PAN) and KYC verification required before pickup.
- •Learner licenses are not accepted for self-drive rentals.
Rental Plans
- •Hourly plans: minimum 4 hours with included kms; ideal for short city trips.
- •Daily plans: 24-hour rental window with 300–500 kms included on most vehicles.
- •Weekly & monthly plans offer bundled pricing and higher included kms.
- •Unlimited kms available on select vehicles — look for the badge on listing cards.
Fuel Policy
- •Most petrol/diesel vehicles follow Full-to-Full: receive with a full tank, return full.
- •Fuel shortfall is charged at market rate plus a service fee.
- •Electric vehicles must be returned at the agreed battery percentage.
Security Deposit
- •Refundable deposit collected at booking (₹2,000–₹25,000 depending on vehicle).
- •Deposit is released within 5–7 business days after vehicle inspection.
- •Deductions may apply for damages, excess kms, late return, or fuel shortfall.
- •UPI/card hold or cash deposit accepted at select hubs.
Cancellation & Refunds
- •Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup on standard economy plans.
- •Cancellation within 24 hours: 50% of rental charge may apply.
- •No-show: full day rental charge applies.
- •Refunds are processed to the original payment method within 5–7 business days.
Late Return
- •30-minute grace period after scheduled return time.
- •Beyond grace period: hourly extension rates apply automatically.
- •Contact support to extend officially and avoid penalties.
- •Unauthorized late return may result in additional fees and booking restrictions.
Insurance & Liability
- •Basic third-party liability insurance is included with every rental.
- •Optional damage waiver reduces your financial liability for accidental damage.
- •Exclusions: off-road use, racing, intoxicated driving, unauthorized drivers, and negligence.
- •Report accidents or vehicle issues to support immediately.
Usage Rules
- •Vehicles must be used only within permitted geographic zones as stated at booking.
- •Smoking, illegal activities, and sub-letting the vehicle are strictly prohibited.
- •Only the verified license holder may drive unless an additional driver is registered.
- •Return the vehicle in the same condition (excluding normal wear).
Airport & Hub Pickup
- •Airport pickup available in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore at designated hubs.
- •Share flight details for delayed arrivals when possible.
- •Airport convenience fee may apply on select locations.
- •Use coupon AIRPORT15 for 15% off eligible airport bookings.
Payments
- •Accepted methods: UPI, credit/debit cards, net banking, and wallet balance.
- •Cash payment available at select city hubs only.
- •All prices are inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
- •Coupons and wallet credits cannot be combined unless explicitly allowed.
Terms of Service
- •By booking on DriveRent, you agree to these policies and our Privacy Policy.
- •DriveRent reserves the right to refuse service if KYC verification fails or documents are invalid.
- •Pricing is dynamic and may vary by city, season, and vehicle demand.
- •We may update policies with notice on this page; active bookings follow the policy at time of booking.
- •Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
